Zero Tolerance To Embezzlement of Public Funds

The Green Vision Empowerment for Development Initiative (GVEDI /TT) has condemned the alleged embezzlement of public funds under the current government. The Organization has urged President Bola Tinubu to ensure the prosecution of the embattled Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Dr. Betta Edu, over the alleged misappropriation of #585M. GVEDI, reacting through its National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Echeta Onuh, stated that the allegations against the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation is an unfortunate but a recurring feature of Nigerians in public offices. It stated that this fraudulent act of depleting resources meant for projects is not new in government Ministries.
According to GVEDI, this is what leads to complete disenfranchisement of the masses in terms of financial resources, opportunities, or rights, most often, leading to limited economic participation, as well as neglect of major projects in the country that can bring positive change in the lives of struggling Nigerians.
Dr. Edu’s conduct has not left many Nigerians surprised probably because this has become the trademark of people in governance. What surprises most people, perhaps, is either the age of the Minister involved in this scandalous behaviour because of the recent clamour for youth participation in governance, or the minimal time (barely six months) that she had spent in office piloting the affairs of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
The GVE , as an Organization, condemns in totality the depletion of the economy of this country through such uncivilized conduct by supposedly civilized and educated public office holders and, therefore, calls for quick reorganizing and institutionalization of the concerned Ministry, shining forensic investigation into suspected others, as well as instituting proper investigation and ensure that adequate punishment is meted out if the Minister is found guilty or culpable in any way.
